## The problem it solves
- Ordinary CCTV is reviewed after the fact — it produces evidence, not warnings.
- Built-in motion alerts fire on cats, trees, rain, shadows and headlights, so owners switch them off and end up with no alerting at all.
- Armed response is expensive and still relies on someone noticing something first.

## How it works
1. A small edge box (Intel N100 class mini-PC) is added to the customer's network. It discovers the existing cameras automatically; the owner enters the camera password once.
2. The owner draws the exact watch area per camera (e.g. the driveway, excluding the pavement and street). This is what eliminates false alarms.
3. The box runs AI object detection (Frigate with a YOLO model on the integrated GPU) locally on every frame. Only when a person is detected inside the chosen area does anything leave the property — a still image plus a short description.
4. A WhatsApp message with the photo arrives within seconds, carrying action buttons: snooze this camera, snooze the whole site, or send help. An email with the same image is sent in parallel at no extra cost.
5. If nobody responds within about two minutes, an automated voice call is placed. The recipient presses 1 to confirm. If unanswered, it calls again — up to three times as standard.
6. Everything is controlled by replying on WhatsApp: ARM, DISARM, HOME mode, STATUS, or snooze a camera. There is no app to install.

## What it is NOT
- Not an armed response or guarding company. Nobody is dispatched to the premises.
- Not a guarantee. It operates on a best-effort basis using cameras, power and internet the provider does not control.
- Not a video-cloud service. No footage is uploaded or streamed off site.

## Key facts for South African conditions
- Load shedding: the edge box draws very little power and runs from the same small UPS or inverter that keeps a household router online. If power or internet fails, detection stops and the system proactively notifies the owner that the site is offline rather than leaving them falsely reassured.
- Compatibility: works with IP cameras and DVR/NVR systems that expose RTSP streams, which covers the large majority of systems installed in South Africa in the past decade. No camera replacement required.
- Privacy and POPIA: all processing happens on the customer's premises. Only still images of genuine detections are retained, for the number of days in the plan, then automatically deleted.
- False-alarm control: the AI is configured to detect people (optionally vehicles or animals), restricted to owner-drawn zones, with a confidence threshold and a minimum persistence. If one camera alerts repeatedly it automatically rests for an hour and explains why, so owners do not become desensitised to their own alarm.
- Self-monitoring: if an edge box stops reporting while the site is armed, the owner is told that their cameras are not being monitored.
